There’s something extra special about photographing senior sessions, especially when it’s for someone you’ve watched grow up. Molly is one of my youth students, so getting to capture this milestone for her made this session even more meaningful!

Our adventure actually started a little differently than most sessions… because it took two tries to make it happen.

The first time we headed out to the Wichita Mountains, we were met with some seriously challenging conditions. The wind was relentless, and the cold made it almost impossible to work in comfortably. We did our best, laughed through it, and tried to make the most of the situation but ultimately decided it would be worth coming back and trying again.

And I’m so glad we did.

Just two days later, we returned and it felt like a completely different world. The weather was absolutely perfect: 72 degrees, no wind, and the kind of calm, golden light photographers dream about. It was one of those evenings where everything just falls into place!

We spent the session exploring the wildlife refuge, chasing beautiful light, and finding the perfect backdrops around every corner. From rugged landscapes to soft glowing fields, every spot felt like it was made just for Molly. And to make it even more fun, we were lucky enough to see buffalo during our time out there which made the whole experience feel even more memorable and unique.

To top it all off, my kids came along for the adventure, which added such a fun and relaxed energy to the session! It turned into more than just a photoshoot, it felt like an evening of exploring, laughing, and making memories together.

Molly was an absolute natural in front of the camera, and her personality truly shined in every shot. I’m so grateful we stuck it out through that first tough day, because the second session couldn’t have been more perfect.

These are the moments I love most, not just the photos themselves, but the stories behind them.
